Textile homes, 2025
Concept, Design & Production: Freya Mathilda Tiarks
Textile homes is an exploration of the connection between home and clothing, based on my own personal view on home and clothing. The work exists of two parts: a folded shirt that visualizes how garments can act as homes, and a small zine that documents what home means to other people and how it does or does not relate to their relationship with their favorite piece of clothing.
The tactile experience of wearing can create a sense of home to me – feeling safe and grounded. Textile homes highlights the importance of comfortable and well-fitting clothes and that our clothes are supposed to fit our bodies, and not the other way around. If we see our clothes as body-shells that can support us in feeling safe, we will also take better care of our garments, just like we would take care of our house or room.
